How it works
Each page is numbered so that every student is 'on the same page,' so to speak. It is important that the student numbers his or her pages correctly, and that the student has the correct assignment on the correct page. Generally, the left pages are for Bellwork, and the right pages are for notes and assignments. Most of the time, we glue in an assignment quickly at the beginning of class.Grading
Not every assignment that we do will be kept in the notebook, nor will every page in the notebook be graded. I grade the notebook in the following ways:- There will be a category for Notebook in my grade book, and it will count for 10 %
- Walking around the room and "spot checking" for one or a few assignments
- Notebook quizzes (These are easy 'A's if the student has kept up with the notebook. A sample question might be, "On page 9, What was the objective that day?" Notebook quizzes are a way to keep them motivated to keep it together.
- Sometimes I will collect an assignment, hand it out, and it will be glued in after it is graded. Once it is graded, I will not look for that same assignment in a "spot check," but I may ask a question about it on a notebook quiz.
Structure/ Organization
*The notebook has a structure, it is broken down into units of study, and within the unit, pages are grouped by topic. Each unit will have a colorful title page, that lists the topics we will study. Often, the units will have a vocabulary section as well.
*Bellwork is graded once a week, and only one day of Bell Work is graded at random.
