Grading
I try to post grades every day on edline, however I only guarantee them to be updated weekly
by 6pm on Fridays. I do not change grades, unless there is an error on my part,
and your child has the assignment to show me the error. I do not allow students
to turn in all their assignments right before the end of the nine weeks, nor do
I give extra credit assignments. However, I build in extra credit opportunities
throughout the quarter.
Late/
Missing work, the “1 Day Late Rule.”
Because I give students 3 nights to complete only 1 hour of homework
a week, I will take homework only 1 day late for half credit. (So, it
will show as a 50% in the grade book, which is still much better than a zero).
In Edline, I notate what the student’s reason was for missing the
assignment. If there is a “0,” it means
that your child did not turn in the assignment.
If an assignment has a low score, I try my best to note why a student
lost points. If you would like to know further reason, please ask your child to
see the assignment, as many times I write the reason on the paper. If, after
talking to your child, you are still unclear, feel free to email me.
As far as late classwork, the policy is the same, one day late for
half credit, unless the student made an arrangement with me in advance for
extra time.
Absent
work
Your child is responsible for getting make up work. I follow the school’s
policy of 3 days to make up work. I notate in edline the revised due date, and
will put “ab” for that assignment until it is turned in. The “ab” status will bring the grade down,
but it will go back up when the assignment is turned in. Because I already give
extra time for homework (3 nights for 1 hour of work), I keep the due date of
Thursday even for students that are absent one day during the week. If your
child has missed several days, I will make an arrangement with the student and
notate it in edline.
