Rules, procedures, policies, and getting to know each other

Unit 1: "Why we study Geography"

The 6 Elements of Geography 

1. The World in Spatial Terms- continents, oceans, cardinal and intermediate directions, map types and projections, absolute and relative location, hemispheres, major lines on the globe.
2. Physical Systems- landforms, natural wonders of the world, major mountains and rivers, Climate and weather
3. Places and Regions- regional terms like city, state, country, etc., how regions are defined/named
4. Environment and Society- How geography effects where humans settle, agriculture, how people change their environment
5. Human Systems- culture, economics, diffusion, conflicts, civilization
6. The Uses of Geography- how can it help us?

Unit 2: "Understanding World History"

Use time lines, and know time period terminology: era, millennium, decade, century, epoch, A.D., B.C., B.C.E., C.E.

Different types of social studies- archaeology, geography, political science, economics

What do historians do? How do they disagree?

Primary vs. secondary sources

Unit 3: "Civilization"
Unit 4: "Early Civilizations" 
Unit 5: "Classical Asia"
Unit 6: "Classical Civilizations" 

(Greece and Rome)

Unit 7: "Economics of Ancient Civilizations"
